This half term our Topic will be ‘On The Farm’. Read on to find out more.
Our core texts will be: Owl Babies, What the Ladybird Heard, A Squash and a Squeeze, Mother Goose, and Farmer Duck. We will continue to develop our speaking and listening skills by engaging with different texts and uncovering meaning. We will read repetitive stories and encourage children to join in with repeated phrases and continue to practise writing our names and labels for things using our phonics.
In maths we will be continuing to count to 10 and learning to understand what the value of each number is. We will also look at comparing different sizes and find 1 more and 1 less than a number.
Through our pictures we bring to school we will learn how our pupils join in with family customs and routines We will also be visiting Mudchute Farm where we will see a range of animals, discussing their diet and habitat, finding any similarities and differences between the animals. As the weather changes and gets colder we will also look at the differences we see around us in the environment.
We will be continuing to experiment with a range of different materials to create texture and new effects linked to the farm. We will create our own objects using junk modelling, construction and play dough. We will be looking at how we can continue to build on the friendships we have made in school and encourage children to build their social skills.
In Physical Development we will have expert sports coaches teaching ball skills where the children will learn to improve their coordination and catching skills.
