Community Volunteers
At Alexander McLeod Primary School we welcome the opportunity to support members of the local community with the opportunity to gain some work experience at school. We understand that many of our parents, carers and local community representatives are keen to gain valuable school based experience and so we try to ensure that we accommodate them where possible.
If you are interested in volunteering to work at Alexander McLeod as a Learning Support Assistant or to support with 1:1 reading, there is a clear process you must follow in order to start.
Becoming a volunteer at Alexander McLeod
You will need to download and read the Voluntary Advisory Document (attached) that outlines expectations set by the Local Authority in terms of your role as a volunteer. This document needs to be signed and returned to confirm that it has been read and understood.
Having read and signed the Voluntary Advisor Document, you will then need to complete our Volunteer application form that acts as a record of your contact details. As part of this process, we request 2 character references from people that have known you for a period of over 5 years.
If you are successful at this stage, we request a short interview to discuss your reasons for volunteering and what we can do to support you with any longer term ambitions you have.
Please note that volunteers may be subject to a DBS application to ensure they are safe to work with children.
What we expect from you
As with any member of staff at Alexander McLeod, we have high expectations in terms of professionalism and commitment from our volunteer community. We are looking for:
- Volunteers who are committed to the school and supporting the children with their learning and achievement.
- Volunteers who have a particular skill set they feel will help enhance the quality of provision at school.
- Enthusiastic, passionate and motivated individuals who are keen to gain some invaluable school based experience.
If you would like to discuss volunteering at Alexander McLeod please speak to Mrs Bailey who oversees our Volunteer Support Programme at school.
