Remembrance Week 2018

During Remembrance week, the children at Alexander McLeod were fortunate enough to participate in a range of excellent activities designed to increase their understanding, empathy and awareness of World War 1 and the heroes have since sacrificed their lives for our democracy and freedom.

This week we celebrated Remembrance Day through art, drama and history workshops.  Children across the school visited a local war memorial and understood more about the role the local community had during the WW1.  Father Derek visited us from St Michael’s Church and discussed the sanctity of life and the importance of living peacefully alongside one another.

The week ended with our successful Remembrance Exhibition, showcasing the children’s amazing work based on the First World War. Our main attraction was an installation of ribbon and paper poppies made by all the children in the school.  Parents were able to spent time reading some of our wonderful poems, look at some of the stunning art work we created and share their own thoughts on the war using at our ‘fountain of peace’.
