Alexander McLeod Primary School

School Times

Start of the school day

For children in Year groups 1 to 6 we operate a ‘soft start’ system to the start of the school day. This means that children are able to come to school between 8.40-8.50 and enter straight into their classrooms for early morning work. Children are expected to walk straight into their classrooms in a quite and orderly manner.  Once in class, children will complete an early morning task until 9.00 am when the registration process begins.  A member of the senior leadership team will always be present at the gates in the morning to welcome the children to school and deal with any parent queries.

End of the school day

For children in EYFS and Key Stage 1, the school day ends at 3.15pm and for children in key Stage 2, 3.25pm. At the end of the school day, class teachers bring the children to the playground for collection. This allows parents and carers an opportunity to briefly meet the teacher and discuss any queries first-hand. Teachers will keep the children close-by until they are handed over to a designated adult. If you wish for someone else to collect your child from school, you must inform the school office of their name and relation to the child.

The school offices open at 7:30am.  Telephones will be answered between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.

For children in Year 5 and Year 6 the school gives the option to walk home on their own. If you wish for your child to go home alone please inform the school office in writing.  Children who have been given permission to walk home alone are expected to uphold our school values and standards. If there are concerns that the safety of the child or the integrity of the school is compromised then we will insist on the child being collected.
